Blue Offshore sets cable transport record

September 1, 2020

Blue Offshore is proud to be able to contribute to the Dutch energy transition, as it has been awarded a contract by Van Oord to supply a full cable transportation campaign for a project near the Dutch shore: Hollandse Kust (Zuid) Alpha in 2020 and Beta in 2021.

For this cable transport Blue Offshore has mobilized the world’s first certified double basket carousel barge, with each basket carousel carrying approximately 4,000 tonnes of electrical cable. This transport took place from Hellenic Cable Factory in Greece to the port of Rotterdam in The Netherlands. For this transport the 122m long barge CC Atlantique has been chartered by Van Oord. Besides two large basket carousels and the dedicated control systems, all deck engineering, technical crew and complete mobilization service was provided by Blue Offshore, in collaboration with our sister companies within MeeMaken.

The Hollandse Kust (Zuid) Alpha grid connection must be ready in 2021. Beta is scheduled for completion in 2022. The HKZ wind parks combined will supply 1,500 MW of renewable energy, sufficient to supply up to 3 million households with power.
